Established as a port on the Altamaha River by Scottish Highlanders in 1736, Darien has a long martial tradition. Darien has plenty of rivers, estuaries, islands, beaches and natural habitats to explore, as well as Civil War history sites such as Fort King George, Ashantilly and the Old Jail. There is also a nice selection of restaurants serving local cuisine.
