Nashville Trans Nightlife and Bars

Trans Nashville: Bars, Community & Resources

Nashville doesn’t have a large standalone trans nightlife scene, so the best options tend to be established LGBTQ+ venues where trans women, trans men and non-binary people are part of the regular crowd rather than treated as an afterthought.

The Lipstick Lounge is one of the strongest examples. This lesbian-owned East Nashville institution has built its reputation around being a “bar for humans,” and that genuinely broad welcome is a big part of its appeal. Trans visitors are regularly pointed towards Lipstick by locals looking for somewhere relaxed, social and comfortable, especially if they’re going out alone or are new to the city.

Beyond nightlife, Nashville has community groups, social events and local organisations supporting trans and non-binary people. This guide brings together places to go out, meet people and find useful local resources, whether you’re visiting for a weekend or spending longer in the city.

The Lipstick Lounge is a legendary lesbian-owned bar in East Nashville that describes itself simply as “a bar for humans.” Open since 2002, it has become one of Nashville’s best-known LGBTQ+ institutions and welcomes everyone across the community.

Karaoke is a huge part of life at The Lip, with singers taking to the stage every night. There’s also live music, trivia, dancing, drag events, a patio, cocktails and a full food menu, plus weekend brunch from 10am. It feels much more like a neighbourhood LGBTQ+ hangout than a conventional nightclub, and it’s particularly popular with lesbians.

The adjoining Chapstick space adds a sports-bar side to the venue, with dozens of screens, pool, trivia and regular watch parties. That makes Lipstick a particularly good choice if you’re looking for somewhere LGBTQ+ in Nashville that works just as well for brunch or a game as it does for drinks and late-night karaoke.

You’ll find The Lip in East Nashville, around a 10-minute drive from downtown and separate from the cluster of gay bars around Church Street.

Trans Aid Nashville is a trans-led mutual aid collective serving transgender people across the Greater Nashville area.

Run by transgender Nashvillians, the group focuses on practical support, community care and building longer-term networks for trans people, including transgender, genderqueer and gender-nonconforming people. Its work is grounded in mutual aid rather than charity, with an emphasis on solidarity, autonomy and community-led support.

For visitors or new residents looking to connect with Nashville’s trans community beyond nightlife, Trans Aid Nashville is one of the most relevant local organisations to know. The group also shares opportunities to get involved, support others and connect with community resources.
